The WPOVRS provides Advanced Life Support Level care 24 hours a day to the Wintergreen Community
and surrounding area. To activate WPOVRS for a MEDICAL EMERGENCY DIAL 911.
WPOVRS's response area includes the Wintergreen Mountain Community, The Stoney Creek
at Wintergreen Community, Mile 5-20 on the Blue Ridge Parkway and Route 664 from Reeds
Gap to Route 151. WPOVRS also provides Advanced Life Support First Response to Nelson
County as needed.
WPOVRS has seven career Cardiac Tech\Paramedics ,including a Chief and assistant chief.
The agency also enjoys the support of 35 active volunteers.
The career staff brings over sixty years of EMS experience to the Wintergreen Community.
WPOVRS has apparatus housed in both the Valley Emergency Services Building
(Stoney Creek at Wintergreen) and the Wintergreen Mountain Emergency Services Building.
WPOVRS will respond to all calls for Emergency Medical and Rescue Services. Typical
emergency calls include chest pain, seizures, shortness of breath, anaphylatic reactions,
broken bones, child birth, ski related injuries and motor vehicle accidents. WPOVRS
responds to an average of 1000 calls a year.
WPOVRS will transport to the Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville, the Martha Jefferson
Hospital in Charlottesville and to the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

Levels of Certification for WPOVRS Personnel:
Emergency Vehicle Driver/Operator-Minimum qualifications, Emergency Vehicle Operators
Course(16 hours) with a written and practical test. Cannot be the Attendant in the back
of the Ambulance.
First Responder-68 hour state certified course, with a written and practical test. Cannot
be the Attendant in the back of the Ambulance.
Emergency Medical Technician-Basic- 120 hour state certified course, with a written and
practical test. May be the Attendant in Charge on Basic Life Support calls.
Emergency Medical Technician Shock\Trauma-One year at the EMT level plus a 56 hour state
certified course, with a written and practical test. May be the Attendant in Charge on Basic
Life Support calls and the Attendant in Charge on certain Advanced Life Support calls.
Emergency Medical Technician Cardiac-one year at the EMT/Shock Trauma level plus a 68
hour state certified course, with a written and practical test. Attendant in Charge on Basic
and Advanced Life Support calls.
Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic-a(minimum of 365 hours) with a written and
practical test. Attendant in Charge on Basic and Advanced Life Support calls.
As there is no charge for our service, WPOVRS relies on donations from the public.
Our average yearly operating costs are just under $600,000.00. WPOVRS is a tax deductible
corperation under 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code. Donations to WPOVRS can be mailed
