Learning & Teaching at Wintergreen

Wintergreen has a tremendous variety of opportunities to both learn and teach. For example:

Wintergreen Resort is a very wise choice if you want to learn to enjoy the snow or improve your skiing or riding. The resort’s tennis academies and clinics have built a national reputation. Volunteers welcome visitors on the mountain and, along with Wintergreen Ski Patrol, patrol the slopes.

The resort is the base for Wintergreen Music’s annual summer music academy that attracts passionate and high-quality students from around the world. The music festival not only offers both introductory and in-depth music programs for adults, but brings in chefs that teach fun cooking classes. Volunteers make it all happen for students and guests.

The Nature Foundation at Wintergreen’s Trillium House at the top of the mountain is the headquarters for dozens of nature programs for both adults and children, including its annual weekend-long Spring Wildflower Symposium. Volunteers with the foundation offer nature walks most every weekend, grow native plants in the greenhouses, help maintain the hiking trails, and more. In the valley, the Rockfish Valley Foundation Natural History Center’s volunteers maintain a park, trails, a museum and holds special events.

Wintergreen Adaptive Sports’ volunteers and professional instructors offer adaptive instruction in alpine skiing, snowboarding, kayaking, and canoeing. In the summer there is kayaking programs and at its Wounded Warriors Golf tournament they hold an adaptive golf clinic.

The all-volunteer Wintergreen Sporting Club’s five groups are packed with enthusiasts who enjoy sharing their interests with newcomers.

Many Wintergreen property owners are active in the impossible-to-summarise Rockfish Valley Community Center.

Wintergreen Fire and Rescue relies on volunteers who get in-depth instruction on working with their lifesaving teams. Chief Curtis Sheets says, “What makes Wintergreen different from other communities is that it is full of critical thinkers who are used to rolling up their sleeves and getting things done.” The community’s professionals and volunteers working together makes Wintergreen very safe, very fun, and very interesting.
