WPOA Operational Update- July 31, 2020

Wintergreen Owners,

We remain in Phase 3 of the re-opening plan.  A link to the Phase 3 guidance can be found here:

A link to Executive Order Sixty-Seven can be found here:  https://www.governor.virginia.gov/media/governorvirginiagov/executive-actions/EO-67-and-Order-of-Public-Health-Emergency-Seven—Phase-Three-Easing-of-Certain-Temporary-Restrictions-Due-to-Novel-Coronavirus-(COVID-19).pdf

While it certainly is not quiet, there is very little “news” for this weeks update.

Bears – Bears remain active, breaking into homes and vehicles.  Please remember to secure or remove sources of food, lock cars, houses, etc.

Police – The website contains a note from Chief Russell on ways to both protect and monitor your home while away.  Reliable internet in our community makes WIFI based monitoring devices a great option for owners.  In addition to providing alerts when someone enters your home or the presence of fire, these systems also allow owners to manage HVAC expenses and provide alerts of power outrages or heat loss.  Many of these systems are both affordable and easy to install.  His note can be found here: https://www.wtgpoa.org/wintergreen-police-department-safety-tips/

CVEC – Owners should have received notice of the power outage planned for August 4th from 12:01am until 4am and again on August 11th starting at 11pm and lasting approximately 6 hours.  In case of bad weather, the repairs will be completed the following day.  For additional information contact CVEC at (800) 367-2832 or www.mycvec.com .

Resort Operations – The Wintergreen Weekly is a great way to stay informed about resort offerings and plan onsite activities.  It can be found here: https://www.wintergreenresort.com/uploadedFiles/Activities/twaw.pdf

Important Reminders:

Swimming Pools – The Rodes Farm and Chestnut Springs Pools remain open with restrictions in place that satisfy the Phase 3 requirements.  Owners wanting to use these facilities are encouraged to read the pool operating plan posted on the WPOA website along with frequently asked questions (FAQ’s).  Please visit:  https://www.wtgpoa.org/2020-wpoa-pool-operating-plan-faqs-phase-3  to familiarize yourself with the process.  A copy of the current pool rules can be found here:   https://www.wtgpoa.org/wpoa-phase-3-pool-rules/

Please note:

  • We are limiting reservations to try and give everyone who is eligible to swim, a chance of getting some pool time. To make a reservation please stop by the pool or call.  Chestnut Springs (434) 325-2200 ext 9303 or Rodes Farm (434) 818-0814.
  • Full-time owners are encouraged to swim during the week and avoid the weekends when part-time owners are here.
  • Owners must accompany guests. Unaccompanied guests are not permitted to use the pool.
  • Failure to show up for your reserved pool session impacts others. Please contact the pool and cancel your reservation so we can try and accommodate another owner.
  • Face coverings are required at both pools, when not actively swimming. Please maintain social distance and wear a mask as you enter and exit the pool area, at check in, using the rest rooms, etc.

The WPOA Pool Staff remain a critical component in our ability to operate pools going forward.  Current restrictions make it unlawful to operate our pools without completing the onsite mandatory requirements.  It is critical that we support their efforts and recognize the important role they play.

WIFI at Chestnut Springs Pool:  A big thanks to Nelson Cable for providing WIFI service at the Chestnut Springs.  Pool staff are happy to provide login information during your session.

Motorcycles:  Owners are reminded of the WPOA policy restricting motorcycle use in the community.  Owners renting their units are asked to update VRBO and other rental sites, informing guests of the no motorcycle rule.   Current Policy – Property Owners owning motorcycles that have a properly affixed vehicle decal may operate their motorcycles through the gate to and from their residences ONLY. Guests of property owners, guests of the resort and all others are not allowed to operate motorcycles on the mountain and may park them at the Community Office Building during their stay. Owners and all other persons operating a motorcycle are required to use the left entrance lane and check-in with the officer at the gate.

ARB Request:  Many owners have been staying close to home since the start of the pandemic.  This time at home is prompting a lot of maintenance chores or improvements they want to do around the house.  We are finding that some of those maintenance projects and improvements are being started before being reviewed and approved by the Architectural Review Board (ARB).  Property owners have started erecting fences, remodeling houses, painting or reroofing their houses before getting the projects approved by the ARB as required by the Wintergreen Covenants and Restrictions.  As a reminder, here are some of the things that must be reviewed and approved by the ARB prior to starting the work:

  • Exterior additions or alterations
  • Changes, additions to or removal of windows, doors, skylights
  • Repainting houses, decks, trim even if the color is the same
  • Installation of things such as hot tubs, fountains, gazebos or storage buildings
  • Clearing of trees, understory, shrubs and native vegetation
  • Reroofing the house
  • Construction of fences or similar structures

Please remember to contact the ARB staff at 434-325-8533 or 434-325-8537 before you start any of those projects or if you have any questions about any of these types of projects.

Founders Overlook:  The entry culvert pipe is complete and a new asphalt entry apron will be completed soon.  The original split rail fence has been removed and a new one put back in the original location.

Older News Worth Repeating:

Tuckahoe is open for groups to use with restrictions.  If you have an interest in holding an event at Tuckahoe, please contact WPOA for details.  Individuals and Groups wanting to use the facility need to present operating plans to WPOA that address the concerns and comply with the requirements outlined in Phase 3.

Owners are reminded that the resort golf courses are now open and play is increasing.  Walking or bike riding on cart paths is prohibited during golf operating hours (typically 8am-6pm).  Non golf use of these paths disrupts play and can pose a serious risk from being hit by a golf ball.

The WPOA offices remain closed to walk-in traffic.  Please send an email or call WPOA for assistance.

More and more owners and guests are out and about.  Please observe the speed limits and drive with care.

The tennis court at Rodes Farm is currently open for Tennis and Pickleball.  Players are reminded that COVID 19 remains a serious health risk.  Please adhere to the rules posted and use the sign-up sheets (located in the pavilion) to help facilitate play.

Both community playgrounds are open.  Parents are reminded of the serious risks associated with COVID 19.  Please follow the rules posted at both locations and take extra precautions.

Fishing – lakes and ponds within our community are private.  To help identify you as an owner, please contact WPOA to request a pass.  We can send one via mail or leave it for you to pick-up.  Vehicle access is restricted, owners need to park on the street and walk in.

Dog Walking – The WPOA Covenants require all dogs to be on a leash or “under the control of a responsible person and obedient to that person’s command at any time they are permitted outside…”.  The use of words “control” and “obedient” in the rules suggests a dog off leash should respond immediately and avoid an unwelcomed encounter with another owner or their animal.

Thanks again for your understanding and support.
