Trillium Field Trail blooms in early May as thousands of trillium wildflowers begin to blanket its forest floor with white flowers that later turn pink. It’s easy to see field of blooms from your car on Wintergreen Drive, but it’s a mistake to miss the joy of walking among the wildflowers.

The mountain-top field has deep shade, is cool and moist, and its soil is acidic and rich in humus, which allows the wildflowers to thrive.

Wintergreen’s Trillium Field‘s flowers are “Great White Trilliums” (T. grandiflorum). As the flowers age and become pollinated, they produce anthocyanin pigments, causing the white petals to turn pink.
